NICE - raccomandazione di usare Bavencio (avelumab) per il trattamento di mantenimento nel cancro uroteliale
Sul sito del National Institute for Health Care Excellence (NICE) inglese sono state pubblicate le raccomandazioni all'impiego di avelumab nel trattamento di mantenimento del cancro uroteliale localmente avanzato o metastatico dopo una chemioterapia a base di platino.
Nello specifico, esse vengono formulate come segue:
1.1 Avelumab is recommended as an option for maintenance treatment of locally advanced or metastatic urothelial cancer that has not progressed after platinum-based chemotherapy in adults, only if:
-
avelumab is stopped at 5 years of uninterrupted treatment or earlier if the disease progresses and
-
the company provides avelumab according to the commercial arrangement.
1.2 This recommendation is not intended to affect treatment with avelumab that was started in the NHS before this guidance was published. People having treatment outside this recommendation may continue without change to the funding arrangements in place for them before this guidance was published, until they and their NHS clinician consider it appropriate to stop.
La raccomandazione del NICE si basa sul fatto che non sono disponibili trattamenti di mantenimento di routine per il cancro uroteliale localmente avanzato o metastatico che ha risposto alla chemioterapia a base di platino e che l'evidenza prodotta dagli studi clinici mostra che i pazienti che assumono avelumab hanno un tempo di progressione più lungo e vivono di più rispetto alle supportive therapy.
